What's New...

What’s New - Autumn 2009

The mountain is beautiful these next few months! As fall approaches we enjoy crisp, sun filled days and clear, cool nights. We should see our first rains shortly, but for now it’s “Indian Summer weather” days in the 80’s and nights in the 40’s! By month end September should be more in the seasonal norm of 70’s in the days and low 40‘s to high 30’s at night... we look forward to the cold nights as that is when Nature takes her cue from the frosty nights and the awesome fall colors snap to their full glory on all the trees and foliage as they bid their goodbye before bedding down for their winter rest.

Hiking in the woods is exceptional this time of the year. The hunt for wild chantrelle mushrooms is on! The mountain biking excursions are outstanding as the temperatures cool. Brad has great rides to share with you. With the beauty of the changing colors and the frequent visits from the woodland creatures as they prepare for winter, there is always something to see at the Lodge and in the neighboring woods. The orchards in the valley below are being picked and we will soon harvest the fruit from our own organic trees as well. Kathy has already put up jam from our apricot and plum trees for your enjoyment this winter and will be busy making applesauce and apple butter as well as jam from the italian prune plum grove shortly. The local farmers markets are overwhelming with this seasons harvest featuring excellent sweet corn, peppers, apples, pears, tomatoes, eggplant and varietal squash. Chef Tom’s dinners have been exceptional with the bounty of fruits and vegetables here in the upper valley this entire summer and fall will be equally blessed. Our local commercial Alaska fisherman Ted has supplied us with outstanding wild salmon and halibut and will continue to do so in the winter months with his excellent flash frozen, locally caught treasures from the Pacific. The Northwest is a wonderful place to live, particularly during harvest!

The fun and excitement of a winter visit to the mountain is fast approaching. Winter operations begin mid November thru March. Enjoy snowshoeing, back country x/c skiing, sledding and snowmobiling as well as the romance of a weekend snowbound in the Cascades with your special partner. Frolic in the snow, relax in the hot tub under the star filled sky and indulge in culinary delights prepared by our chefs. Availability is getting picked over so call us shortly to arrange for the ultimate holiday in the pristine wilderness of the Cascades dressed in it’s winter whites.

Come experience for yourselves the MHL renewal! Join us on the mountain for an outstanding visit. Renewal for your sight with the spectacular beauty of the resort, renewal of mind with the serenity of the mountain, renewal of your body with the warmth of sunshine and nourishment of Chef’s creations.

Muir penned the Mountain Home experience perfectly over a century ago when he wrote...
“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.” - John Muir, Naturalist
